Geoff Tanner, Chief Commercial and Marketing Officer for The J.M. Smucker Co., has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Ohio, the organization formed in 2019 by the merger of Clubs in Cleveland, Summit County, Erie County and Lorain County.

At Orrville-based Smucker, Tanner oversees the Commercial organization, including sales, marketing, eCommerce, innovation, insights, digital, advanced analytics, revenue management, trade marketing, customer partnerships and retail execution.

Tanner has a proven track record of leading successful transformations at the company/business unit level through portfolio restructuring, accelerated growth initiatives, new capabilities, world-class sales and marketing execution and cost management.

Tanner said he is looking forward to advancing BGCNEO’s mission.

“I am honored to be joining such an amazing organization, one that helps kids and families across Northeast Ohio,” he said. “Boys & Girls Clubs provide so many opportunities for kids to learn and grow.“

Tanner earned an MBA at Duke University and a bachelor’s degree in Commerce as well as one in Political Science and Government while at Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand.

Tanner is married to Catherine and has two children, Sydney, 7, and Greyson, 5. They live in Bath Township.

Tanner is a musician/composer who plays in local bars and restaurants with musician Chad Hoffman. The two recently formed a mission-based band ‘Hercules Cat’ to raise awareness and money to support music and arts education at the Boys & Girls Clubs. Their first album, “Pop Not Soda,” will be released in the summer and all proceeds will be donated to the mission.

BGCNEO provides safe, fun places for children ages 6-18 to go after school and for educational help. During the pandemic, the organization opened 16 ClubSmart Learning Centers, places where kids in virtual education environments can get in-person and tech help with schoolwork.
