Boys & Girls Club virtual fundraiser will showcase renovated Teen Center

Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Ohio’s Erie County branch will unveil the renovated Teen Center on Cleveland Road during its live-streamed Sept. 10 Blue Jeans for Blue Doors fundraiser.

The sixth annual event, which raises funds for the Clubs serving Sandusky’s youth, will be live-streamed on Facebook from 6-8:30 p.m. and include a live auction and a virtual tour of the updated Teen Center. While there is no cost to attend, donations will be accepted before and during the event, and meals will be available for pickup at the Teen Center at a cost of $35 for adults and $15 for children.

Through the auction site, virtual attendees can also purchase $20 blue keys, two of which will open doors to grand prizes – a Yeti cooler with wine and a lottery tree. Purchasers will get a number connected to their key; if their numbered key opens the door, they win the item.

Northeast Ohio Medical Specialists (NOMS) is the event’s Signature Sponsor.

“Although we all love the in-person Blue Jeans for Blue Doors benefit, the virtual event will allow even more supporters to participate this year,” said event tri-chair Tessa Steinemann. “I’m most looking forward to the Facebook Live part of the event which will give us an inside look at our newly remodeled teen center and host our favorite Blue Doors key opening to win the lottery tree or Yeti Cooler.”

Items up for grab in the live auction include a weekend in Hocking Hills, gift baskets from local businesses Willow Elizabeth and Unsalted Boutique and a certificate for a two-hour tour for two people from Sandusky Segwave.

Meals for the event will be prepared by Sweet Potato Catering of Sandusky.

The Teen Center, located at 2112 Cleveland Road in Sandusky, was closed this spring for a complete renovation of the building. The renovation includes all new programming spaces, a commercial grade kitchen, an updated computer room and a tutoring room and office. Club members can find help with homework, mentoring and always a hot meal when they come to the Club.

With the new space, the Club will also be offering some programs from area agencies, providing the most current Boys & Girls Clubs of America training for its staff and collaborating with its youth Club to do activities together.

The Teen Center is schedule to reopen when the school year starts.

All proceeds from Blue Jeans for Blue Doors benefit the local Boys & Girls Clubs, which provide safe, fun places for kids to go after school and during the summer. The Clubs focus on academic success, healthy lifestyles and character development. In 2019, Boys & Girls Club of Erie County was one of four organizations that merged to form BGCNEO. The other Clubs are in Cleveland, Akron and Lorain County.
